Tour de Cure Colorado Celebrates its 25th Anniversary in Parker 3

Cyclists, Runners & Walkers Join Together to Stop Diabetes

The Town of Parker and the American Diabetes Association are collaborating to make the 2016 Tour de Cure Colorado a true community event that will highlight Parker’s unique community businesses and partners, while still offering the inspirational daylong celebration that Tour participants have come to know and love.

This year’s event will be the largest of its kind for Coloradans living with all types of diabetes as three amazing and inspirational Colorado events become one – the Southern Colorado Tour de Cure, Denver Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes and Tour de Cure Colorado.

The ride, run and walk will take place on Saturday, September 24, at Salisbury Park to help raise funds to change the future of diabetes and help stop the devastating disease. Cyclists, walkers and runners from around the region will gather to participate at one of five routes designed for all ages and ability levels. Routes include a 5K walk/run, a family-friendly 20K cycling ride, 50K cycling ride, 100K cycling ride and an epic 100-mile century ride.

The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight to stop diabetes and its deadly consequences, and fighting for those affected by diabetes. The Association funds research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides objective and credible information; and gives a voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes.

One way that companies can and have decided to get involved is by sponsoring or forming corporate teams for the Tour de Cure. Similarly, the Association has partnered with the CEO Leadership Circle, which is working toward healthier workplaces and healthier communities by utilizing the Association’s Wellness Lives Here platform. This platform aims to educate and motivate people to adopt healthful habits to reduce the impact of type 2 diabetes and other obesity-related illnesses. For some, it means fewer sick days and higher productivity. For others, it means looking and feeling better. For everyone, the result is empowerment – Americans who are better able to control, delay or stop diabetes and related health problems.

Workplace wellness is an increasing way of life for many Colorado companies. The programs that are available to employers and employees create a culture of accountability, nutrition awareness, and daily and signature activities and events. The informational and educational resources that are available help executives customize their specific health goals and objectives for their companies.

The Tour de Cure is a family-friendly event, so get your family and friends together and come out to Salisbury Park to show your support, along with all the other community members who really care about helping others.

There is still time to get involved. Volunteer positions are available, or you could register as an individual, or start a corporate or friends and family team to ride, walk or run to stop diabetes at Tour de Cure Colorado. Visit Diabetes.org/ColoradoTourdeCure.
